New Earths.

Gleese 581b is an Earth size planet about 20 light years away.
Another is Kepler 22b about 600 light years away. Mean temp is 72 degrees, which translates to liquid water, the basis of life. It may be a world covered in water. Interesting.

Gee whiz. I wanna go~~~!    Only take a few million years at present speeds. Ad Astra! (to the stars!)

Moon first.  Build a "space station" torus on the ground and launch entire.
Serves as "space ship", "space station", "lunar habitat", "Martian habitat and artificial gravity transport to Mars".  Build more on the Moon. Use them to go to asteroids, Mars, all the other planets for exploration~!

Forget government involvement. This is or should be a do it yourself effort. Support from the government evaporates with every new election cycle because the populace forgets and 10 to 20 years is "too long" to remember a goal.  How do we do it?

Give "cash flow" to unemployed engineers to "live the dream" and create a "skunk works" to make that torus "gas tank" blast off into orbit. Structure IS the payload. I propose commercial real estate in the form of residential apartments is the way to get that cash flow going. I have several "on line" guru's in this area and at least ONE that I am impressed with.  Several good books in print (see Amazon). I really need several folks signed on to this idea to make it work. Particles go faster than light ~~!!!!

They go 60 nanoseconds faster plus or minus 10 nanoseconds  margin of error.


How is this important? Check out my previous post. Clocks are physical things that measure motion. So at the speed of light the clock still looks normal while back at the ranch your moving ultra slow. OK. If the variable is time rather than space if you increase the "time" factor looking the same from either frame of reference then the speed of light is "MUCH" further up the line, i.e. you will be FTL..... but not in violation of any "real world" physics "law". That is to say, Albert may have been wrong, but not overtly, just in the description of what is happening (thought experiments ) vs his math. Things may have "fields" that relate to each other and change with distance the time variable. That is they look like they are going slower as they get further from us, BUT not the huge distances between the stars, just out as far as some local planets. NEW questions. The devil is in the details, as always.


These "fields" are what make things, "Things"; matter and energy are yet still the same just needing new explanations as to how they really work. I am reminded that Maxwell's equations were done in "quarternons", or solutions in 4 dimensions. Professor Heavyside did not like "this spooky 4th dimension" and re-wrote Maxwells equations in "vector analysis". Which one did you learn in school? So now we have 11 dimensions?  


So much more to learn.

"Through the Wormhole" TV series on science channel showed that "bar code" spectrum lines rather than be the same differ depending on which hemisphere you take the readings as to what is "done" to the speed of light. That is to say, things don't add up. 

As tonight space junk falls from the sky, let's not build more smaller vehicles, let's build bigger ones'. Let's build a a space station torus style and launch it entire. Donuts can make just as good fuel tanks as cylinders can. And what makes better stability than gyroscopes? Easy in a big circular pre-built on the ground launch-able space station torus as heavy launch vehicle. Stack 'um, rack 'um, recover the first stage with a big huge "fan blade" donut hole for the next two stage launch. But maybe just one will do. Any rocket scientists looking on. Do the math and let me know.

My sister is in California dealing with her ex husband's end of life stroke and dementia. My daughter is in the hospital with burst appendix. As we continue to have problems meeting end of month needs with limited incomes. Not to say that life doesn't go smooth, but that we should expect the unexpected because "that's life".

Time machines may be easy to build and if so use the universe's pre-existing "wormholes" to bridge distance. Instead of "Alcubierre's" space warp FTL we need to warp TIME instead, control time differentials instead. Let me know if you get some good leads.

a simple statement

"The human mind simply cannot deal with delayed cause and effect. We accept things at face value and do not accept the complexities and complications of time." (the Bob Livingston letter PO Box 1105 Cullman, AL 35056 $65 per 12 issues). Bob follows with an example where he states that we are in an era of vaccinations and inoculations. We all get them and years later we get a "buildup of plaque"in the arteries, heart disease and other diseases. These are diseases that were not common before vaccinations. So like Rome it is only much later that anyone figures out that the lead in the plumbing is what made them go mad and sterile.  As to the FED. QE1, QE2, "quantitative easing" is just printing up more money in the basement. And any farmer knows that if you just keep adding water to the milk the milk loses it's value because soon it is just all water. The dollar lost 20% this year. Such government money inflation is a TAX on every thing you own. Since 1913 when the fed was created we have lost 97% of the value of money. As Churchill once said "Once in awhile people stumble across the truth, then pick themselves up, ignore it and proceed on". That is a variation of the "normalacy syndrome" where we tend to stick our head in the sand and NOT EVEN SEE the problem and just do what we normally do. The Titanic is sinking so let's rearrange the deck furniture. After all, it was on our schedule.

We are going to have a depression, not because of a poor economy but BECAUSE of the effects of GOVERNMENT and it's direct actions.  It will not get out of the way. Don't expect it to. They want to own you.

"Mining the Sky" by John S. Lewis is a great read. He points out that "the last three Saturn 5 boosters,  already built and paid for, were laid out as lawn ornaments at Cape Canaveral, Marshall Space Flight Center, and Johnson Space Center, to rust into ruin and serve as a testimony to the futility of that dream. Only governments can afford to spend a quarter of a billion dollars each for the equivalent of plastic flamingos." Then he describes the fate of the tools and dies, sold pennies on the dollar (a 20 billion dollar investment) and melted down for scrap. The plans donated to a Boy Scout paper drive. And the last of plans in the Federal Records Archives in Atlanta are "lost". So much for GOVERNMENT intelligence. The whole space effort was a geopolitical stunt based on lies. Evidently President Eisenhower financed U2 effort to find out if Russia had ICBM's. They found out they had FOUR.  JFK got elected on the fear of a  "missile gap" that did not exist. JFK knew that.  Lack of intelligence, foresight, imagination, or even "hindsight" for that matter. Lack of accountability to the public. Central planning sucks. Government is untrustworthy.

Capitalism can achieve Space development for us. Paradoxically Hong Kong is the only place on Earth right now that has been left untouched by government regulation. China doesn't mess with it because it WORKS and pays them dividends. You can get a business "license" with ONE form filed. It has the number one economy and the most freedom. We are a mixed socialism/capitalism economy and number 9 on the list of economies. Pure socialist countries rank at the bottom of the list in the 170's.  That should be informative to China, USA, and the rest of the world, but somehow escapes notice of supposedly intelligent people. We have a long way to go.

So many problems. We need real solutions. Governments will not do that for us. Abundance of resources and energy await us in space. We will only mature as a species when we are able to open up this frontier. We need to get to work on it NOW without government.

Survival

"Can America Survive" by John Hagee points out in Part one of the book Nuclear Iran's plan of attack on 7 cities in the USA. He tells of British agents already catching a terrorist with a suitcase/backpack nuke. He says the bombs are already here since our borders to the south are non existent. EMP pulse can send us into the dark ages starving millions as electricity shuts off everything from the grid to vehicles that won't run and gas pumps that won't pump. Tractors won't plant crops. And trunks won't stock the grocery stores. Planes will fall out of the sky. When Iran has the rockets and bombs enough to do Israel "off the map" they will only hold off only long enough to do us in at the same time. They can launch medium range missiles from cargo ships off our coast. How much canned food do you have stored by? No, that's not enough. Plan better.

"Survival with Style is the name of a series of articles in the 70's by Dr. Jerry Pournelle and Larry Niven. Space development leads to abundance of resources, and expanded frontier, and HOPE that the species can have some of its' eggs in another basket if this one should stop having a history or someone to tell it.


The old boy scout in me says "Be Prepared". Prepare for the worst and hope for the best. READ "Patriots" by James Wesley, Rawles. It is a novel cloaked as a readable survival guide to TEOTWAWKI or " the end of the world as we know it". His blog is survivalblog.com .

Another Book

"How To Live On Mars" by Robert Zubrin opens with a page " about the author" which at first sight is confusing; Quote "He is no (proven) relation whatsoever to his twentieth-century namesake, a humorless astronautical engineer who developed the Mars Direct mission plan, authored the classic treatise The Case for Mars, and led the founding of the Mars Society n 1998". Then you check the back of the book. Yes, he IS the writer of The Case for Mars. So as you read it you realize that he "using the voice" of a writer FROM the Martian colony telling the newbies all the tricks that make the colony work. Chapter 2; How to choose a Spacesuit. It's really detailed but fun to read.  Choose a pressure suit over elastic skintight suits. Gain a pound of fat and they don't fit right anymore. Get Liquid Oxygen over gas oxygen supply system. You get 36 hours of air vs 12 plus possible refills from your rover's propulsion system. Power with methanol/oxygen fuel cells vs Hydrogen/Oxygen fuel cells.  Both boil off leakage. Stuck in air lock your boot rubbed on the floor causes a spark and BOOM. Not healthy. Thermal Control and Waste Management: Heated boots because the ground is -90 degrees C. Nice diagram of a spacesuit diaper named "Spacesuit Waste Entrainment Temporary Cachement System (WETeCS). Gosh, did you ever wonder?

Books

While I wait for my Malware and Spyware programs to clean up my PC I will make this post on the Apple laptop. Meanwhile my email is also on the PC and unavailable unless it is "cleaned".

Ah. Modern tech. Simple EMP pulse would knock us into the stone age and starve millions to death. I have been told by my barber that a local farmer is going "back" to old equipment. His computerized modern tractor was knocked out by a lightening strike "close in the neighborhood within 5 miles and the company has still not got it fixed right".

Two hours into my full scan on Malware and still no infections showing. Umm. Maybe cable problems.

Just got in two books...."Entering Space" by Robert Zubrin (of Mars fame-1999) and "Mining the Sky" by John S. Lewis-(1996). Both look great. I will give you an opinion on them as I read them. Checking the index on either one and I don't see "MagBeam". Google it. Magnetized-beam plasma propulsion. "To Mars and back in 90 days". Things change and change fast. Better tech, and newer tech.

But people hold to traditions and keep repeating history. Joplin Mo could use a major rebuild just now and might look into the idea of "SIP" or Shelter In Place.  Look up Monolithic Dome homes. Domes are super insulated and therefore lower energy costs. No roofing repairs. They are "twister resisters" resisting winds up to 300 mph. With a HEPA filter they are BioWar shelters. But they are "NOT SQUARE" like the homes we always build. My six year old watches Bubble Guppies cartoon. Neat little bubble underwater houses. I guess fish are smarter than we are.... maybe.

It's because people keep repeating history that we need to understand history. My degree is in Biology with a minor in Math, but history was my other passion in college. From what I see we are in deep trouble folks. Not being pessimistic, just realistic. ....and hoping I'm wrong on that.

Five steps

"Look. Decide.Connect. Act. Manifest." ("Manifesting Michelangelo" by Joseph Pierce Farrell). Simple huh. Not so much. You can spend a lifetime of effort on the wrong path in life. You try to fullfill your parents dream for you; not your own. You try to live up to the expectations of those you respect and forget to get in touch with your own inner dream. But here is the way to do it. You LOOK for the ideas, concepts and things that "turn you on" in this life. You come alive with enthusiasm ( a word with Greek roots that means "the God within") whenever you see/hear/do "X". It is that which has meaning for your soul. Then you must DECIDE to develop and pursue this purpose in your life. In order to do this to the fullest you must CONNECT with the devine; God, the spirit of the universe, the collective unconscious, or whatever you want to call it. It is out there and will provide you with unlimited energy from the inside out. It will lead you to ACT in the right direction to MANIFEST the purpose, the reason for your existence, and the achivement of your dreams.

Me. I'm a survivalist. In my small efforts I want my family to survive. In my larger efforts I want my friends and community to survive. In my largest efforts I want mankind to survive. Exit Solution, Exit Strategy

As an exit solution space development offers JOBS. The government does nothing to CREAT jobs and is a net consumer of wealth. Observe. "At present prices, it costs about $4,000 per pound to launch propellants (or drinking water) into low earth orbit --except with the Space Shuttle, in which case the cost is more like $10,000 per pound, or $80,000 per gallon! Fortunately, there are a variety of known ways to lower cargo launch costs by a factor of five, ten, or evern twenty. Even so, the need to recycle water and other materials is obvious. But such economic considerations have had no significant effect on the way government-run launch vehicles are designed and operated. Governments, unlike industries, do not have to compete and show a profit!" (p.56 " Mining the Sky", by John S. Lewis) And so it is obvious that NOW is the time to do "space development" without government.  Such real efforts will bring economic expansion to our economy.

As an exit strategy space may provide some interesting solutions to world problems. Suppose for instance that the entire nation of Israel were to have a sperm and egg bank on the moon. Islam were to blow it out of existence on earth, it would yet still exist! It would make their efforts moot. The bible talks about "new Jerusalem" decending from the skies. Perhaps the Jewish nation returning to the ashes of the old. If all this nonsense leads to the atomic apocalypse, as it just might, then would it not be a "nice" thing to have some of our eggs in another basket. Perhaps one in which sanity can prevail.

Read this old book: "A Step Further Out", Jerry Pournelle, PhD. Get it used at Amazon. Amazing thing in the book is his talk about "the redistributionist polices of President Carter" and the lack of action by the government to do anything productive about the energy problem. There is energy in space; H3 on the moon, solar everywhere, Thorium for thorium reactors (google it). Thinking one level up for solutions.

Now I will quote "How power happens" in July Popular Science: "The US consumed 94.6 quadrillion BTU's of energy in 2009. More than any other nation. It also produced more energy than any nation but China: some 73 quadrillion BTU's. That.... breaks down to 308 million BTU's per capita  - the equivalent of about 50 barrels of oil for every American."

Oil. We need all we can get as fast as we can get it until we replace it with something that works. That is too too obvious. But not to our Congress critters. ANWAR has lots of oil. It is 74 miles away from the Alaskan pipeline. Last time congress did ANYTHING it was a bill to drill there. Bill Clinton vetoed it "because it would take ten years".  That was, uhh, 13 years ago. Our current government shuts down drilling in the Gulf "because it is environmentally dangerous".  We deep drill one mile deep. So now our rigs will be sent to Pemco in Brazil where they will drill TWO miles deep. Instead of owning the oil by production we will have to buy it back. Smart (not). What is their willful intent? THEY want to raise the cost of energy to stimulate alternatives? (That's is what they tell you.) That's like swatting flies off your nose with a baseball bat. Not too healthy. Let us all hope we survive their idiot actions. More likely is that they want things to get worse such that the "solutions" they offer will get them more power over your lives and pocketbook. They are looking for a way to make you a SERF on their own personal fiefdom. Buyer beware.

How much food have you stored by for the coming depression? It is about 12 months away. Seven years of fat, and seven years of lean said the ant to the grasshopper. Are you prepared?

By the way  ~ have you heard about the moon society? It's at http://www.moonsociety.org .  Also Artemis Society International at http://www.asi.org .  These people have been around almost as long as I have (and that's old). You can also check out the Lunar Underground Web Ring at the bottom of these pages. It will take you to days, months, years worth of reading on Lunar development. They all have blogs, ideas, and archives of projects completed. Want to know what we can do when we get there? These folks have been thinking deeply about that for years.     ..... The problem I want to address is "how do we get there, and get there soon!".

Again: 1) organize, 2) earn a great living with a great CASH FLOW good enough to 3) create a Skunk Works to create build and test a HEAVY LAUNCH VEHICLE, use it and GO!!!!!

Still need an 1) "us" to organize, but I do have a possible way to generate a cash flow: Commercial Real Estate. Have you ever seen that TV show "Nineteen kids and counting, The Duggers". How can that guy support that army of kids? They don't take a van to the store, they take a BUS; they own one. Well, he does it with commercial real estate.

The key to convincing investors to plunk down dollars is selling to their "What's in it for me" mindset. To sell to that you need a group of people with good "skillsets"; the knowhow to get done what needs to be done and done well. The key word here is "group". Back to square one. We need an "US". United we stand, divided we get to stir our own coffee.  Will that be sugar, cream, or a cash rich future. You'll have to shout. I can't hear you.  ....uh, yet.

The Third Degree

The third degree is to use cash flow to create a Skunk works were we can create a heavy launch vehicle; test, build, launch. The moon is a great place to start a space civilization! It is close enough to learn lessons and get emergency resupply if things are not working out. Solid support. Mars is 6 months away. We need to know how to survive well before we colonize asteroids, Mars, or other moons. It has every resource we may need to get a good foothold. We can use local materials to build spaceships, space-stations, colony habitats, exports for sale to Earth. You love the idea of Mars. You just might have to be a "luna-tick" first to become a Martian. But how do you get there? We need a Heavy launch vehicle that is reusable and low cost with quick turnaround.  (and yes, I've got a design in mind ~ for so long I can't get it out of my mind).

Did a webinar last night to see if things have changed with my favorite guru over the year since I have found him on line. Wonder of all wonders he has NOT. AND that is a good thing, a great thing, because the opportunity is STILL there and still a sound system of training. I am excited to make it work for us.

sick day off

Had  cake last night and woke up to 300 count sugar. Alice stayed home to take me to the doctor. Bronchitis. Pain. Lots of fun.

Not only we, but the entire human race is fragile. What happens if America gets attacked with an A bomb. Just one. An EMP pulse could knock out the grid. It could kill the trucks that bring your food. It could stop the pumps that put fuel in the trucks, or the tractor that plows the field, with so many gallons of fuel per acre of food. Back in the 30's we had 90% of the people down on the farm able to feed themselves. Now it is 90% in the cities with 3 days food at home and "just in time" logistics to the grocery store, maybe one or two weeks to mass starvation and marshall law. Millions will die.

OK enough cheer. Space and abundant energy can help to make us less fragile until we grow up. Do you think we will find Nazi's on the moon (as in Heinlein's story) when we get there? No. But we may find Chinese''s Peoples republic yelling at us to get off their hegemony.

The third degree is use a CASH FLOW to create a private/public "skunk works" to design, test and build a heavy launch system to help us mass migrate into space.

Bob the builder here. Yes. Yes we can do it. You have to decide. What's it going to be.

second degree

Find and utilize a cash flow. With a group of people united to a selective task anything can be done. Read the introduction to the book "5000 year leap". It talks about the organization of the jewish tribes. Groups of  10 would elect one member to the next level. Groups of 100 would elect a rep to the next level, etc. Scottish clans did the same. Our own republic is a representative republic regardless of the party system we have now it was meant to function somewhat like that ideal. What say we have 10 people involved in commercial real estate generating a good cash flow with some 80 unit apartment building. Such that each becomes somewhat expert at the process of getting apartments and operating them. That group can bootstrap another in a different city. Say a group of 10 does great with a pizza franchise. Again the expertise can be passed on to another group. We graduate 300,000 engineers each year and have jobs for 180,000. Should you be one of them, do you prefer to drive taxi the rest of your life, or by taking up arms with your fellows in similar conditions and end them by helping BOOTSTRAP each to a better level of life for self and family. AND when we build a colony ship that aims to go to the moon, mars and the asteroids for a civilization IN SPACE. In short, space migration, you will be in the group that draws lots to see whom will ship out.

First degree

TANSTAAFL or there ain't no such thing as a free lunch. Otherwise known as "for a nickel more, it's free", or BOGO =buy one, get one. You can bet and win that the cost of a Loss leader is made up in volume. The cost of advertising is a normal cost of doing business and results in a larger bottom line.. What's all this talk about "business" on a space blog? Something or someone has to PAY for every "thing" in your life even if you think it was free. It wasn't. Gosh, is that news to you? Have you had your pencils taken from you in class so that those that came to school without any can "share the wealth". Forced charity is NOT charity at all, it's theft. Just because instituted authority can do it with a pistol to your head does not give it the force of morality. You own your person, not the government, and therefore the products of your labor. (remember the amendment against slavery? still applies regardless of the law being ignored by the instituted "government". Such drivel you say, "Have you registered for the draft".)

A private venture into space will require MONEY. The first degree of the Six is to find like minded people to organize into a body of people interested in getting it DONE. Used to be called a Company. But networking a social group is "where it's at" now-a-days. Let's not depend on the government handout. Let us instead find a way to generate a "cash flow" for every member of the group such that it meets our basic needs. Maslow's hierarchy of Needs has Self Realization at the top with a full belly and other needs at the bottom as the base of the pyramid. Therefore we need a "CASH FLOW" with leftovers to realize our dream. Space. Survival with Style. For the whole human race.  Go out and find someone as nuts about Space Development as are you. Chain reaction. Find two.
